Hayley Leach (center) conversed with Senator Mitch McConnell at the
FCCLA National Conference in Washington, D.C

With more than 8,000 members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) gathered in Washington D.C. for its national convention, Kentucky’s delegation was led by Grant County’s Hayley Leach.  Hayley is an incoming senior at Grant County High School, and is currently serving as Kentucky’s FCCLA President. She is the first student from Grant County to hold this prestigious office.

The conference, held July 6-9, 2015, provided opportunities for students and advisers to come together for fun and to listen to inspiring speakers, as well as to expand leadership skills, sharpen talents and explore career pathways.  The theme of this year’s conference was “Together We Are Healthy” and attendees were challenged to explore the fitness of the body, mind and spirit that is a product of healthy attitudes and habits; and to pursue this whole health through the conference’s great learning and networking opportunities.

In addition to Hayley’s duties as Kentucky’s FCCLA President, Hayley enjoyed the 70th Anniversary Inaugural Gala and had the opportunity to meet with Senator Mitch McConnell to discuss FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences Education. She also showcased her own STAR event project on Autism and Bullying, competing in the Interpersonal Communications category, and earning a perfect score by all three judges.

The GCHS FCCLA adviser is Ms. Whitney Hilterbran; Ms. Hilterbran and the Grant County Schools are incredibly proud of Hayley and her achievements at the state and national levels.
