To encourage participation in Hay Read, high school students visited each classroom
and shared the featured book, Pumpkin Hill by Elizabeth Spurr.
SO, WHAT ON EARTH IS HAY READ!?!
Hay Read is an annual event, organized and hosted by Grant County High School student organizations, which promotes literacy among primary students. Each year a book is chosen and an evening of fun-filled activities related to that particular book is planned by the high schoolers for younger students in a chosen primary grade level. This year the target audience is third graders in Grant County Schools.
Hay Read will take place Tuesday, October 17, 2017 (5:00 - 7:00 pm) at Grant County High School. In preparation for "Hay Read” Grant County High School Family and Consumer Science students have already visited each third grade classroom to read Pumpkin Hill by Elizabeth Spurr with students.
Several exciting activities have been planned, including: “Pumpkin Launchers”, “It’s the Great Pumpkin”, “Picasa Pumpkins”, “Baking Up Fall”, “Farm Animals Petting Zoo”, and “Pumpkin Seeds”. Also, each student will receive a copy of this year’s book, Pumpkin Hill by Elizabeth Spurr, the night of the event.
Parents of third grade students are encouraged to attend with their child as the evening will also feature some good-to-know information for parents. Registration forms have been sent home with students or are available here. To ensure proper preparation and adequate supplies, parents are encouraged to register their third graders as soon as possible.
