GCHS TO HOST POETRY OUT LOUD COMPETITION JANUARY 8

Come enjoy an evening of poetry interpretation and recitation, as performed by outstanding 9th - 12th grade students at the Annual Poetry Out Loud competition.  The event will be held in the Grant County High School Auditorium on January 8, 2016, 6:00 p.m.  Admission is free.

(If weather cancels school on January 8, the make-up day will be January 15.)

In advance of the competition, participants will choose and prepare two pieces from Poetry Out Loud's online anthology of more than 800 poems.  Their preparation will include interpreting and memorizing their selections.  At the event, participants will perform their selections while being judged on the complexity and length of the selection, plus the participant's accuracy in recitation, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, understanding and interpretation of the poem, stage presence and overall performance.

Among this year's participants will be Grant County High School junior, Haley Bryan.  Haley is the 2014 and 2015 GCHS Poetry Out Loud Winner.  In 2015 she also won first place in the state Poetry Out Loud Competition and went on to represent Grant County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky in National competition in Washington, D. C. last April.

Best wishes to all participating students and Scott Gibbons, chairperson for Grant County's Poetry Out Loud event.
