Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI)

FROM THE OFFICE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

While Non Traditional Instruction is not a new concept for Grant County teachers and students, never have we come together to create a plan for delivering instruction to our students on a day to day basis from home.  What we learned through this process is that our teachers are resilient, organized, and extremely thoughtful in preparing work that is relevant for our students during this time.

Our teachers are maintaining an online presence from 9:00-3:30 each day.  You can expect them to check in with your child between 2 to 3 times each week.  We know at the elementary, many of our teachers are having online read alouds for students as well as making phone calls or meeting virtually so students can read aloud to them.  In addition, many students have the capability of using online platforms such as Lexia, Zearn, I Read, and Learning.com.

At the middle and high school, students in the blended learning program are completing their work much the same as when they were in the building!  In addition, most students are using Edgenuity and/or Google Classroom to maintain our academic expectations for all. Teachers are available to assist students with both academic and technology needs throughout the day.

From the Office of Teaching and Learning, we ask that your child READS and WRITES every single day!  We appreciate all of our new “teachers” in the district and know that by working collaboratively we will continue to support our students’ learning.   We know that our students need to be good readers and writers as they progress through their K-12 education and beyond. Good reading and writing skills are an essential part of everyday life.

While students have assignments that require them to read and write for academic purposes, it is important to encourage your child to read for pleasure as well. If you don’t have books at home, there are several online resources where students may access texts. Journaling is a great way to encourage writing everyday.  Not only can students document their daily lives as we maneuver through this unique situation, but journaling has been proven to be a healthy way to reduce stress, boost mood, and keep the memory sharp.

We have included a list of websites that can be used by students at home.
