Counselor

A little about Ms. Gena…
My name is Gena True and it is my privilege to serve our CMZ family as the school counselor. I've taught in schools throughout Ohio, New England, California, and Japan. Grant County is my hometown and I’m humbled by the opportunity to work alongside our community, teachers, administrators, and school support staff as we help all students develop and enhance their academic, social, career and personal strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens.
Counseling Mission and Vision
The vision of the Crittenden Mt. Zion Elementary counseling program is that all students will achieve their individual level of academic success and social emotional growth. They will develop goals and learn how to attain those goals as they look ahead to a future aligned with their unique interests and abilities. Our hope is that students will leave CMZ prepared to function as cooperative, responsible members of the community - showing empathy, compassion and self-control.
Belief
I share the belief that “In order to be successful in and out of school, students need to learn a set of social and emotional competencies—cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control—and a set of academic competencies—academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors.”
- The Responsive Classroom
I believe that, to the greatest extent possible, all students should have access to quality education that meets their individual needs and abilities. Fostering an environment of cooperation and building positive relationships throughout the school community will enhance the personal growth and potential for our students to develop into responsible, respectful citizens.
