COVID-19 COMMUNICATION #7

GCS COVID-19 UPDATE:  March 18, 2020

Whew!  What a difference a week makes…or a day…or an hour!

News from today....

First:  We have a rock-star district!

Our amazing teachers have concluded their preparations for continued Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) and have spent today making it available to students.  Some instruction will be delivered via the internet, some has been delivered to homes (if the homes were along our meal delivery routes), and some will be mailed to homes.  Every student should have his/her assignments by the end of this week.  If your child does not receive his/her work by Monday, please reach out to your teacher.  Email addresses are available on our website (via the "contact card" icon at the far right of the header) or you may call your child’s school.

As we proceed with our Non-Traditional Instruction, teachers will continue to be available to students via phone, email, and via the various forms of digital instruction; however, teachers will now have the opportunity to work from home most days.  At the present time, we have established a rotating schedule in which teachers and assistants will report in person one day each week, and will work from home the remaining four -- either providing instruction to students, or receiving online professional development. Teachers have been instructed to clear their rooms before leaving today, in order to allow for deep cleaning without damage to books, instructional supplies, and personal items they may have in their rooms.  Our scheduled time away from school remains March 16 – April 10, 2020.

The teams we have in our Food Service and Transportation Departments are incredible!  Each day this week, they have prepared and delivered right at (or over) 1000 meals each day.  We will continue this service as long as we are able to do so.  The schedule has now changed quite a bit as we fine-tune our routes.  Also, wait times at most locations have been shortened.  Please be early or on time at your designated location!  And, check out the new schedule posted at:  https://www.grant.kyschools.us/COVID-19Meals.aspx to see if your delivery times have changed.  The Transportation Department is now handling questions regarding food delivery.  They may be contacted between 8am-2pm at 824-3332.

Our custodians have been on the front line through this entire adventure making our work and learning environments as safe as possible (super thanks to them!), and our admin teams have been on-task 24/7.

Our counselors have provided, on our website at:  https://www.grant.kyschools.us/COVID-19Info.aspx, some assistance in talking with your kids about all of the activity going on around us.  On this same page, we are keeping an on-going list of our district communications.  To further enhance our communications efforts, we are currently working on providing district-wide communications via email.  (Stay tuned.)

We hope that despite the chaos going on outside your home, that this period of time can be one of calm inside your home – a time when new hobbies and habits can be developed – and, of course, a time when individual, life-long learning is established as the norm, rather than the exception.  Embrace this time to work on strengthening your family.  You’ve got this!
