COVID-19 COMMUNICATION #4

Dear Parents and Stakeholders:

This afternoon, as part of the state-wide response to COVID-19, Governor Andy Beshear and the Commissioner of Education asked the Superintendents of Kentucky’s public schools to “cease in-person classes” for (at least) two weeks starting Monday, March 16.  In an effort to do our part to prevent the community spread of COVID-19, Grant County Schools will honor this recommendation -- in our case, for three weeks, March 16 – April 3.  We will then proceed with our scheduled Spring Break (April 6-10), meaning our students will not report to school March 16 – April 10.

Please be aware, however, everything is very fluid and can change by the minute.

During our known time off, the Grant County School District will implement an extended “NTI” structure, with the goal being to continue both instruction and meals March 16-April 3.  In order to fulfill our expanded NTI obligation, additional educational materials will be forthcoming for every student.

To assist in accomplishing our educational and nutritional goals, we will need information from EVERY family.  Please watch for a survey that will provide us specific information relative to the technology available to your children as well as the meal needs for the individuals in your home, 18 years of age and under.  Please note:  There are many families that may be inclined to decline the meals being provided during this time.  Please consider, however, what impact the nation-wide response to COVID-19 may have on the financial stability of your household.  We do believe that between the resources available inside our Grant County Schools Food Service Department and the anticipated special provisions via the federal government, that the provision of meals during this time is something our school district can do for our community.  If this helps your family, please feel free to participate.

While the news relevant to schools is pressing and demands our immediate attention, we want to underscore once again the prevention measures you and your family should be diligently practicing.

PREVENTION TIPS

*Avoid close contact with people who are sick.  Maintain social distancing, placing six feet between you and others whenever possible.

*Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue into the trash.

*Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

*Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

*Stay home when you are sick.

*Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water is not available.
