The Grant County Girls Soccer program is coming off a historic milestone, achieving double-digit winning seasons for two consecutive years—the first time in program history. The Lady Braves wrapped up this season with a solid 10-7-1 record. Head coach Derrick Gambrell reflected on the team’s progress and shared his thoughts about the season and the future.
“We had a good season. Injuries kept us from having a great season. If we can stay injury-free, I believe we’ll be strong contenders for the district title next year,” Coach Gambrell said. Reflecting on the departing senior class, Gambrell expressed his appreciation: “Our seniors have been together since middle school, and I will deeply miss their diverse personalities, their relentless fight on the field, and their dedication—both on the field and in the classroom.”
Season Highlights:
- Achieving back-to-back double-digit winning seasons for the first time in program history.
- Junior goalkeeper Madison Utter broke multiple school records, including:
- Most saves in a career.
- Most career shutouts.
- Most shutouts in a single season.
As the Lady Braves transition into the off-season, the team will take a brief break until January before beginning off-season training. Several players are active in club soccer, which Coach Gambrell sees as vital for maintaining fitness. “It’s crucial for us to stay in running shape during the offseason,” Gambrell explained. “That way, when the season begins, we can focus on refining key aspects of our game rather than working on conditioning. With a young team next year, preparation time will be essential.”
