Pursuit of Excellence

Lincoln Herald Running Cross Country

Grant County High School senior cross-country athlete Lincoln Herald was named as the top-ranked Kentucky Runner on Kentucky Mile Split after his recent performance at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Lincoln finished the 5000m run with a time of 14:53.60, securing 3rd place overall. Throughout the cross-country season, Lincoln has consistently finished at the top. "I felt really good about being number 1 in the state and it was exciting to see, but I’m not satisfied. I want to be the best version of myself I can be," shared Lincoln.

Heading into October, Herald has a great plan. He will continue to be consistent with training while attending several large races across the state and country. He is set to attend the Great American XC Festival in Cary, North Carolina at the beginning of October.

Lincoln continues to pursue his goals. "The goals I had for cross country this season were to be the best in the state and possibly in the country, and to make Foot Locker Nationals," he shared. Grant County High School (GCHS) is proud of his accomplishments and, better yet, the person he is. "Lincoln’s incredible achievement speaks to the resilience and dedication of his character. His time this past weekend was not an accident, but the culmination of years of focused training and effort. I have no doubt he will continue to excel on the track and at anything else he sets his mind to." Dr. Bryley Murphy, Principal at GCHS, shared.

We are looking forward to watching Lincoln finish strong this cross-country season and look forward to his next endeavors through indoor track and field and the spring track and field season. Lincoln has currently verbally committed to the University of Kentucky to pursue his academic and running career. We can expect more from Lincoln Herald this year!

Currently:
- Lincoln holds the GCHS cross-country record
- He is ranked first in the state
- 30th in the nation
- Holds the 7th fasted time for the state of Kentucky ever!
