What skills need to be taught, K-12, that best ensure success in the workplace after high school? How can parents, schools, and our local community partner to provide the best possible training ground for our youth? Please plan to participate as these important questions are discussed May 7, 2019, at the Grant County High School Library, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Recently the Kentucky Legislature and the Kentucky Department of Education challenged each school district and community to develop a "Graduate Profile" for its students. The goal is that schools and communities will be more intentional in developing curriculum and initiatives that better prepare students for the workplace. The effort requires us to first identify and define the most critical workplace skills, then to develop the pathway, at all levels of instruction, for reaching the desired end.
Over the past several months, a team of GCS administrators, students, and community members have been working to develop Grant County's Graduate Profile. A broad overview of Grant County's work thus far is shown below. Work will continue throughout the summer to define exactly how this looks in the classroom, and it will ultimately become a fairly large document – but, at present, we are seeking input from our parents and our larger community to fine tune the identified skills and to discover practical ways that schools, families, and the local community can partner to achieve these desired goals for each and every student.
As such, we would like to invite all of Grant County's stakeholders -- students, teachers, parents, community members and leaders -- to contribute to this important effort. We value our families and community, and cannot do this without you. Please come, be a part of this vital conversation as we work to ensure that each student does, indeed SUCCEED.
