Student Athlete Spotlight
To sophomore, Lincoln Herald, running is as natural an activity as sleeping. Lincoln has only recognized his talent in running over the last few years. As an eighth-grade student (2020), Lincoln was the Kentucky Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association Middle School State Champion in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 4:39.36. After his success with track and field, Lincoln decided to run cross-country the following fall.

The 2021 cross-country season in all respects was successful for Lincoln; he earned a Class AAA Region 5 8th place finish earning him a place at the 2021 AAA KHSAA State Cross Country meet where he finished in 57th place. Lincoln was also named to the Northern Kentucky All-Region Team for his 2021 efforts. Thinking about last season, “I have grown a ton since last year.” Lincoln shared, “I was unsure what the future held for me and wasn’t really doing well in the present.”

The 2022 cross-country season has been a success for Lincoln. Thus far; of the 5 races he has competed in, he has placed first in four of them and second in the other. His time improves with each race, beating his Personal Record each time out. Currently, Lincoln holds the Grant County High School Cross Country School record set in 2006 with a time of 15:51.10.

“Going into regions, I feel very prepared,” Lincoln says. “I have been training very hard to be able to hopefully win at regions and make state. The ultimate goal is to win state.”  Lincoln finished in fourth place at the 2022 AAA regional meet this past weekend with a time of 16:19.35.  Currently, Lincoln ranks 16th in the AAA State rankings.

“I felt like the only person who could make me better was myself, pushing every workout and race,” states Lincoln. We are thrilled to see him compete at the KHSAA State Championships this coming weekend.   Remaining in the 2022-2023 school year, the winter and spring track and field competitions will begin, and Lincoln is gearing up for a stand-out track and field season as well!
