We are pleased to officially announce Mariruth Morris as principal of Grant County Middle School, following her dedicated service in the interim role throughout this past school year.
Reflecting on her experience, Mrs. Morris shared that serving as an interim principal felt “like being a guest conductor; you’re keeping the music going, but you aren’t always sure if you can change the sheet music.” As she transitions into the permanent role, she emphasizes that leadership is not only about maintaining stability, but about building momentum. She is committed to fostering a culture of pride in which students move beyond simply following expectations to truly taking ownership of their school. During her time as interim, she made a conscious effort to listen more than she spoke, allowing her to recognize the tremendous untapped potential within the building. Looking ahead, her vision is clear: not just to have a successful year, but to define excellence so intentionally that it is evident to all who enter.
Mrs. Morris also highlighted the people who make Grant County Middle School exceptional. She offers a sincere appreciation for the office staff, teachers, custodial team, and cafeteria staff—the “unsung architects” of the school’s culture. These individuals build meaningful relationships with students each day, helping to create a supportive and welcoming environment. She noted that one of the school’s most meaningful traditions is recognizing students who demonstrate integrity and character, even when no one is watching. While middle school is often perceived as challenging, Mrs. Morris sees it as a place filled with “fearless empathy,” where students consistently demonstrate a remarkable capacity for kindness and growth.
In considering the future of Grant County Schools, Mrs. Morris sees herself as a bridge-builder who will actively support and advance the district’s mission. She believes that the district’s vision should be more than words—it should be reflected in daily experiences for every student. Through a focus on innovation, pride, and high expectations, she is committed to ensuring that excellence is accessible to all students, regardless of their starting point. Her goal is to cultivate not only academic success, but also to develop future leaders who will positively impact and strengthen the Grant County community.
Please join us in congratulating and supporting Mrs. Mariruth Morris as she begins this important role. We are confident in her leadership and excited for the continued growth and success of our school under her direction.
