Girls in HOSA

Grant County High School's Career and Technical Center has once again showcased the exceptional talent of its students, with another group of International Qualifying students! The Biomedical and Health Science Pathway at GCHS offers a student organization called HOSA (Future Health Professionals), where students compete in various competitions at the regional, state, and International levels. Throughout the school year, HOSA members dedicate their time to gathering data, honing their skills, and preparing for culminating events.

In November, fourteen students advanced from the regional competition to the state level. The HOSA State Leadership Conference took place on March 13-14, 2025, in Louisville, where GCHS students excelled, with eight students moving on to the International Championships in June!

Here are the standout winners from GCHS:

·         Family Medicine: Madison Utter – Top 5 Finish

·         Forensic Science: Peyton and Emmerson Walters – 1st Place

·         Health Care Display: Mallie Bates and Peyton Gosney – 1st Place

·         Clinical Nursing: Evangeline True – 1st Place

·         Clinical Specialty: Ella Lee – 1st Place

·         HOSA Happenings: Marissa Barker – 1st Place

In the Forensic Science competition, Peyton and Emmerson Walters worked together to investigate a crime scene. Competing against 18 other schools, they analyzed evidence to determine the events leading to the victim's demise. “There were a lot of clues that didn’t give a clear answer. We had to revisit our conclusions multiple times, even erasing the final answer once. After much deliberation, we felt uncertain as we submitted our findings,” Emmerson Walters recalled. However, their hard work paid off, and they were named State Champions. “I’ll never forget walking off the stage with my sister to meet our chapter after being named state champions,” Peyton shared with pride.

Advancing to the International competition requires all winners to continue studying and refining their knowledge. “We’ll study again for another round of tests, and we hope our scores will propel us into the second round,” Emmerson said. “With our advisor, Amy Bolton, guiding us, we’re confident we’ll receive the training we need.” The International competition will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, this June. GCHS will send eight talented young women to compete against the best in the world. We can’t wait to see the results of their hard work and dedication!
