GCS ADOPTS NEW GRADING SCALE

Effective with the 2019-2020 school year, Grant County Schools will implement a new grading scale, as follows:

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below
I = Incomplete

This new scale, approved recently by the Grant County Board of Education, will not decrease the rigor of any course content or expectations relevant to instruction.  It does, however, offer several benefits for our students.

- First, it is a fairer scale for ALL students, regardless of one’s ability or class ranking.

- Second, as most high schools in the area now use this scale, Grant County’s adoption of the scale will allow our students to be more competitive for KEES money, scholarships, and other opportunities that place a priority on the student’s GPA.

- Finally, the new scale aligns with those used by post-secondary institutions.

It is important to note that this new scale will not be retro-active for any current or former students.  It will take effect with the 2019-2020 school year and will apply only to courses taken during Fall, 2019 and future classes.

For questions relevant to the new grading scale, please feel free to contact your school’s principal, counselor, or curriculum specialist.
