Mr. Moody's COVID-19 Communication for 3/30/2020

Greetings MCE Families and Students,

This is Todd Moody, Principal at Mason-Corinth Elementary.  I hope that this finds you healthy and safe. Now that we have had some time to adapt to our new procedures for NTI, I wanted to share with you some information concerning the nature of our work, our teacher’s role, and how it will impact students.  Please understand that the goal of any Non-Traditional Instructional Day is two-fold: 1st to promote and protect the safety of our students and 2nd to continue every child’s learning.   Throughout this pandemic we as a district have worked closely with the Office of the Governor and the Department of Education to ensure that the work that we do is consistent with state expectations and that your child will be prepared for future learning back at school.  Please know that our teachers have worked tirelessly to plan and prepare to meet the needs of our students during this challenging time.

=         It is the expectation that our teachers make 2-3 personal contacts with every child per week.  Personal contact means a phone conversation or video chat.  Because our teachers are using their personal phones you will likely see the call from an unidentified number.  Be mindful that many teachers have set up a call schedule to help families prepare for the phone calls. 4th and 5th grade students- be advised that a new schedule has been created. You may find this through DoJo or MCE’s Facebook page.

=         Teachers may reinforce communication and expectations through email and Class DoJo.  This does not, however, count towards personal contact.  This allows the teacher to inform students of expectations and allows them to do work that will prepare them for personal contact via the phone or computer.  Our teachers are aware that you are receiving numerous phone calls and messages.   Please know that they are sending messages that are related to the learning and well-being of our students.

=         Special Area teachers (Music and PE) are sharing resources to help students stay active. The expectation is that every child completes all of the work in the NTI Packets.  Additional resources provided by Music and PE are optional.

=         We will be reporting grades for the 4th 9 weeks.  These grades will be determined by the work that is completed in the NTI packets and student/teacher conversations that take place 2-3 times per week.  Please know that we will be collecting all NTI Packets and the work will be scored.

=         We will have a 3rd Packet that will be available for pick up at MCE between the hours of 9am and 3pm beginning April 13th.  We will also be doing site drop offs similar to what we did during the last round of delivery.  Completed packets may be returned at this time.  We will have clearly marked receptacles at the school and will be equipped to collect at our site-drops.  We will also collect any checked out library books or class text books.

=         Please check the district website and MCE Facebook page for updates.  This has been and will continue to be a fluid process as we navigate the challenges of this pandemic.

=         You may access all of the websites that students use at school under the MCE page.  You may access this by going to www.grant.kyschools.us and under the “SCHOOLS” tab, choose MCE.

=         Grant County Schools will be on Spring Break from April 6-10.  Teachers will not be contacting our students during this time.

Please know that we understand that every family’s situation is unique.  All of us would prefer to have school in person but we certainly want to do our part in overcoming the challenges that we face.  Though we may be spread out geographically, I believe that the MCE Community is close in heart and we will get through this.  Please do not hesitate to call the school if you have any questions (824-9510).
Take care of yourselves and each other.
