A Nutrition Focus
Earlier in the year we shared how our Food Service Department was a recipient of the USDA Healthy Meals Incentive Grant. Food Service Director, Maggy Livingood has been busy putting the grant to use within Grant County Schools!
“Can anyone tell me the vegetable that helps our eyes?” Food Service Director, Maggy Livingood asks a group of Kindergarten students during her recent nutrition classes. Mrs. Livingood has traveled to each elementary school within Grant County Schools talking about nutrition and the importance of what we eat and how it impacts our bodies. “The students have been really attentive.” Maggy shares.
Part of the grant ensured Maggy’s participation in the Healthy Meals Summit in St. Louis Missouri. Mrs. Livingood is presenting at the summit sharing her experience with the nutrition classes and how student lunches impact their lives. The Healthy Meals Incentives Grant's focus is to support districts in improving the nutritional quality of their meals and modernizing their operations. “We are very thankful to have received this funding and I am excited to continue the conversation with students about nutrition. I am passionate about improving the quality of the food we serve within Grant County Schools.” Mrs. Livingood shares.
