DALZELL NAMED TO "TOM LEACH 2016 ALL-RESILIENT TEAM"!
Congratulations to Maddie Dalzell, one of 25 students from
across the state who was named on April 28, 2016, to the Tom Leach 2016
All-Resilient Team!” The award, now in its sixth year, celebrates high school
student athletes who have overcome setbacks in order to excel, or even just to
compete in high school sports.
Nominations are sought from every high school in the
Commonwealth, and an annual All-Resilient team is chosen, with each member
having his/her own inspirational story. Their obstacles are varied, but
each demonstrates a powerful sense of perseverance and determination.
Maddie, a senior at Grant County High School, overcame a
neurological disorder on her path to becoming an outstanding tennis
player. Maddie has Strabismus which causes a dramatic discrepancy in her
vision. She has managed to play competitively while coping with a lack of
peripheral vision, depth perception, and even double vision. Fortunately,
some of her symptoms have improved thanks to surgery in August, 2015. Her coach, who is also her mother, Dr.
Elizabeth Dalzell, counselor at Grant County Middle Schools says, “Madison
never quits!”
Madison and the 2016 All-Resilient Team was recognized at a
special program held April 28, 2016, at the Kentucky High School Athletic
Director’s Conference held at Papa John Stadium in Louisville. We congratulate, and are inspired by these young
athletes who possess such spirit and determination. Continued best wishes
to each!
The Tom Leach 2016 All-Resilient Team Award is sponsored by
the Kentucky National Guard. This is very fitting, given the resiliency
our troops must demonstrate as they face adversity at the highest level.
