The Grant County Schools Career and Technology Center, now in its fourth year, is establishing itself as a "go to" center for regional employers to find and develop qualified, young recruits.

Among the entities looking at our CTC students is the Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KY FAME). KY FAME is a company-sponsored partnership of regional employers who share the goals of creating a pipeline for high-demand, highly-skilled workers.

Employers actually start training students while they are still in school, then upon graduation provide employment and all-expense-paid post-secondary training in an official apprenticeship program.  The KY FAME employers have worked with Gateway Community and Technical College to develop a dual-track, five semester Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Associate Degree program that addresses the specific needs of the student and employer.  The hands-on experience, coupled with classroom training provides these recruits with direct access to high-paying advanced manufacturing jobs.

High school students may apply for the programs and are chosen based upon courses taken and skills acquired during high school. As of April 15, 2015, Grant County High School had four students officially drafted into the brand new KY FAME apprenticeship programs. This is more students than any other high school in Northern Kentucky.

Congratulations to:

Jacob Martin and Aaron Beyersdoerfer - recruited by Bosch Manufacturing; and

Ryan Robbins and Jose Aguazul - recruited by Safran/Messier-Bugatti-Dowty

Each of these four young men has successfully completed the Mechatronics training program offered at the Grant County Schools Career and Technology Center, along with college-preparatory course-work.

We extend our congratulations to these students, and our appreciation to their instructor, Mr. Brad Schadler, CTC Principal Mr. John Sanders, Gateway administrators, and KY FAME employers who have worked to make this program a win-win for our students and the Northern Kentucky region.

This is a fine example of the fulfillment of the Mission – “to appreciate each student’s unique potential and to advocate for excellence in every child” – and Purpose – “to engage every child in learning and prepare every child for life” – of Grant County Schools.
