--Principal's Message

From the desk of Nancy Livingood

Dear CMZ Families,

Welcome back to another school year.  I hope that you all have had a restful summer and have had the opportunity to spend time with family and enjoy the sunshine.  I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself.  My name is Nancy Livingood, CMZ’s principal.  To most of you, mine is a familiar name, but for some, let me take a moment and tell you a little about myself.  I am entering into my 30th year in education.  I have spent all 30 years here at Crittenden Mt. Zion, nineteen years in the classroom and the 6 years as the Curriculum Specialist and this will be my fifth year as Principal.  I live here in Crittenden with my husband Greg.  This will be the first year we will experience an empty nest as our two children, Tim (24) and Emily (20) have both left the nest.  I am originally from the Dayton, Ohio area but have lived here in Kentucky for the last 29 years…so this is HOME!

I have a deep passion for this school, its families and our community.  We have a great staff here at CMZ.  This year we are welcoming several new faces to the family, but feel confident they will be an awesome addition to the team.   Our goal each day will be to make sure that each student that enters our classrooms feels loved, cared for and valued.

Academically, we will challenge your students to grow every day.  This is our job.  But, we will need your help and support.  Please take the time each night to talk to your child about their day here at school, what they learned and even about what they were confused or have questions about.  We know that true learning takes place when we struggle and then work to master a concept. We utilize an agenda with all of our students.  This is an awesome tool to facilitate communication with your child’s teacher.  Please also feel free to email them with any questions or concerns.  But, most of all be there to support your child.  Check homework, discuss with them what they are learning and above all, read with them as often as possible.  Studies show that students that are read to by an adult (even at the 5th grade level), understand better the need to read, that reading is a life-long skill and thus become better readers. Letting your child see you as a reader will help them to understand that we all must read every day in every aspect of our lives.   Reading on grade level is essential for your child’s success in and out of school.

Regular attendance is also vital for your student’s success in school.  Research has shown that students that attend class at a rate of 95% of the time are twice as likely to be successful than those students that attend on a less regular basis.  Our school-wide attendance for last year was 95.8%.  Our goal for this year was 97%, which we were close to hitting.  We would like to make that goal this year!!!.  Please make it a priority at your house to “Be On Time and Ready to Learn” every day. It really does make a difference.

We are partners in this effort, so if at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me, Mr. Roof (our new counselor), or your child’s teacher.  I know that the students and families of CMZ are the BEST and now, it is my job for the rest of the county, region and state to know that also.  We are SOARING HIGH with Eagle Pride and I want everyone else to know it!!!!

I know 2018-19 will be CMZ’s Best!!!!
