- Technology Support

Network Administrators

The support of technology in the Grant County School District has grown 500% since the instatement of the Kentucky Education Technology System set forth by the Kentucky Legislature in 1992. Grant County now operates the largest and fastest network in the county. We provide multi-media computers and equipment to each teacher, each administrator, and each district staff member. We also provide centralized media centers at each school. Each elementary school has a computer lab that is open for use by students, teachers, and instructional assistants. Those computer labs are often used for Community Education classes and other community functions. The middle school houses two computer labs that serve over 1000 students and their teachers and other support personnel. The high school provides computer access to more than 150 computers with its 5 computer labs. The Library and the General Computer lab are available for scheduling for classes as well as individual student access through the day and after hours. The remaining three labs are booked throughout the day with business classes. Any of the high school computers labs have the ability to be booked by colleges and universities for use as an offsite classroom. The sum is more than 1200 pieces of computer equipment to be maintained. This includes upgrading, software licensing, repair, and eventual replacement.

The District currently employees a School Technology Coordinator (STC) for each school. The STC takes care of the technology needs for their respective school. For needs that are beyond the scope of the STC the District Network Administrator is contacted. The position of Network Administrator oversees and performs the maintenance of computers, networking equipment, phone equipment, paging equipment, security equipment, food service computer equipment and software, financial hardware and software, and various other bits and pieces of technology that are used for specialized areas. The Network Administrator provides Professional Development as well as serving as Chairperson of the Library Media Specialists and School Technology Coordinators support groups. The task becomes more and more daunting as we try to keep up with the rapidly changing technology as it pertains to the education mission of our district.
