-Can I bring personal equipment from home to use at school?

BYOD

Grant Co Schools currently have a district allow policy for BYOD (bring your own device.)

This means that all staff and students are welcome to bring a personal device into the district and can connect that device to our guest Wi-Fi (PodNet).  This includes laptops, eReaders, and smartphones, etc.  These devices can only be connected to the internet via guest wireless. Devices must support 5ghz band wireless. Do not connect any personal equipment to any wired ports.

Staff

  • You may connect up to 3 personal devices (including your smartphone) to the wireless network.

  • Personal devices access the Internet only.

  • Personal devices do not print.

  • Personal devices do not access network shared drives (Ex. H: V: or Z: drive).

  • The Technology Department does not support or troubleshoot personal devices.

Students

You may also bring personal devices to school. Please consult with your school's policy/procedure regarding student use. There is a Computer Use Tab in Infinite Campus where you can see if students have met the requirements for BYOD.

All classrooms and most common areas in Grant County Schools have wireless access.

Below are examples of equipment that is not allowed.

  • No personal printers or copiers.

  • No equipment used to control smart devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant.

  • No streaming equipment like a Roku, Apple TV or Google Chromecast.

Bringing your own device is a special privilege.  Make sure your Antivirus software is up to date and that you have installed all security patches and updates. Do your part to keep the network safe for all our users.
